In an exclusive interview with @CBSMiami, Lieutenant Weslyne Lewis Francois, a 40-year-old Black, #Haitian-#Bahamian woman with 18 years of service in the #Miami Police Department, has accused Chief of Police Manuel Morales of leading a “campaign of racist and discriminatory actions” to sabotage her career. ⁠

Lewis Francois claims the harassment began after her promotion to commanding officer of the Coconut Grove District in 2020. She alleges that Chief Morales criticized her hairstyle, telling her to “tone down her look,” asserting it would not be accepted by the community. Her attorney, Michael Pizzi, called the remarks blatantly racist, stating they were a direct attack on her identity as a Black woman. ⁠

The lawsuit also details alleged retaliation after she objected to Morales’ remarks. Pizzi claims she was reassigned under a superior who had been accused of using racial slurs and was later publicly humiliated. Eventually, she was demoted to lieutenant, costing her an estimated $30,000 to $50,000 annually. ⁠

Despite the alleged mistreatment, Lewis Francois remains committed to her role in law enforcement. She hopes her lawsuit will set a precedent for fair treatment within the Miami Police Department.⁠
