🙏🏾🕊️🇭🇹 The #Haitian community is reeling in shock and grief after the senseless murder of 28-year-old Éliana Thélémaque and her infant in #Kenscoff. The young mother’s unimaginable trauma began on a fateful day when armed bandits ripped her baby from her arms and threw the child into a fire, leaving Éliana to witness the horrific scene.⁠

Éliana’s story is one of unbearable pain and loss. Originally from #Arcahaie, she had already been dealing with the devastating loss of her father, whose body remains in the morgue. To make matters worse, Éliana's sister, Miloura, said Éliana and her baby had been deported by the #Dominican authorities, leaving them vulnerable and without support.⁠

After witnessing the brutal murder of her child, Éliana was found wandering the streets of #Petionville on February 14. She was taken to the Petionville police station and received preliminary psychological care. However, the pain and grief were too much to bear. Just days later, Éliana succumbed to her trauma, leaving behind a community in mourning.⁠

The Minister for the Status of Women and Women’s Rights, Pédrica Jean, has strongly condemned the atrocious murder, calling for justice and accountability. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all 80 people on board Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, were evacuated. Peel Regional Paramedic Services confirmed that 15 patients were transported to the hospital, with one child and two adults in critical condition. The remaining injuries were reported as minor to moderate.⁠

Delta Air Lines released a statement saying the single-aircraft accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. CST with four crew members on board. “Initial reports were that there were no fatalities. Several customers with injuries were transported to area hospitals. Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted,” the airline said.⁠

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA also issued a statement confirming that crew members were working on the flight. Reports are that there are no fatalities. Please do not speculate on this incident as everyone works to gather information and support those involved.”⁠

The incident comes just weeks after a deadly mid-air collision between an American Airlines plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., which resulted in the loss of all lives on board. A medical jet also crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood two days later, killing all six passengers and one person on the ground.⁠
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.⁠
