The #Trump administration is considering imposing travel restrictions on nationals from #Cuba and #Haiti, according to a report by the Miami Herald. Sources familiar with the ongoing discussions told the publication that Cuba could be placed on a "red list" of countries facing a full travel ban, while Haiti may be subject to a less severe version of the restrictions.
This potential expansion aligns with President Trump's efforts to broaden the travel bans he first introduced during his first term. Those earlier bans initially targeted Muslim-majority countries, arguing that they lacked adequate security measures for screening travelers. The policy was later expanded to include North Korea and members of the Venezuelan government.
Universities and advocacy groups have already started warning individuals from countries that may be affected to return to the U.S. as soon as possible. The American Association of University Professors and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee have also cautioned against travel outside the U.S. until more information is confirmed.
