Partnering with the Jozy Altidore Foundation on initiatives to impact Haitian youth enrolled in local Special Olympics programming.
Port-au-Prince, Haiti (April 5, 2019) – Special Olympics Haiti, part of Special Olympics International, a global sport organization serving persons with intellectual disabilities is proud to announce a partnership with the Jozy Altidore Foundation, founded by U.S. National Team player and current Toronto FC star Jozy Altidore, with the mission to help youth worldwide through education, awareness, and leadership.
The partnership supports the Jozy Altidore Foundation’s mission to help children and youth in Haiti and will provide unique opportunities for athletes of Special Olympics Haiti to engage with Jozy Altidore via sport clinics, leadership, and mentorship programs. As Special Olympic Haiti’s Brand Ambassador, Altidore will also help raise awareness for the organization through his network and digital channels.
Founded in 2003, with a network of dedicated coaches and volunteers, the mission of Special Olympics Haiti is to provide quality year-round sports activities, training and competitions in safe spaces to persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) to afford them opportunities to share their gifts and talents to the world openly through sport. Special Olympics Haiti partners with specialized schools and centers that serve persons with ID providing regular sports training in football, track and field, basketball, bocce, volleyball, table tennis, equestrian and unified sports (played with non-ID athletes).

Together with Jozy, we hope to continue to change social attitudes and behaviors and through our social inclusion efforts, eradicate the stigmas related to intellectual disabilities”, stated Nathalie Philippe, Executive Director of Special Olympics Haiti.

The Brand Ambassador program serves to continue to help raise awareness of Special Olympics Haiti with the goal to also galvanize the Diaspora community in the efforts in-country. The program seeks to grow its network of technical staff and supporters to provide better services to its athletes. The Brand Ambassador program provides opportunities to engage with local athletes and will offer education, leadership development, mentorship and life skills activities, including an annual trip to Haiti highlighted by a sports clinic and workshop.
