Haitian football star Melchie Dumornay has made history as the first Haitian player named the 2023/24 CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year. The prestigious award decided through votes from coaches, players, media, and fans, reflects Dumornay’s exceptional performance throughout the 2023-24 season.
At just 21 years old, Dumornay has achieved remarkable success. She has excelled on the field, playing for Lyon, one of the top clubs in French football. In 2023, she was the top scorer in the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, further solidifying her reputation. Additionally, she represented Haiti at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, showcasing her talents on an international stage.
Her accolades also extend to Europe, where she was named UEFA’s Women’s Champions League Young Player of the Year, affirming her status as one of the sport’s brightest talents. Dumornay follows in the footsteps of Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw, the 2022 winner, becoming only the second Caribbean woman to win this award.
Dumornay’s achievements not only highlight her talent but also serve as an inspiration for young athletes across Haiti and the Caribbean, showing that they, too, can reach the pinnacle of global football.
