L’union Suite realizes a dream by opening their first Computer Lab in Cap-Haitien
May 1, 2018 – Cap Haitian, Haiti – L’union Suite is known as one of the biggest platforms for everything Haitian and Haitian-American. With their educational vlogs and stellar photographs covering events from the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, and Haiti, L’union Suite has definitely become a familiar name amongst celebrities, community leaders and fans of the site.
In July 2017, L’union Suite hosted their 3rd Annual Strike for Education Charity Bowl in Davie to raise funds for a lifelong dream to help kids from Wanda Tima-Gilles’ hometown of Cap-Haitien, also known in Kreyol as Okap in Haiti. This week that dream was realized as the first ever L’union Suite Computer Lab opened its doors at College Bell Angelot.
“It’s amazing to see that everyone’s support during the Charity Bowl came to fruition. I’m excited to see these kids discover technology, some for the first time ever, it’s truly humbling,” expresses L’union Suite CEO Wanda Tima-Gilles.
Young men and women between 7th to 12th grades are going to enjoy the 15 computers that were installed on April 30, 2018. As L’union Suite celebrated the grand opening of the Computer Lab, they realized the need to do more and they vow to help grow the lab into a full Resource Center, where students will find several ways to take full advantage of the S.T.E.M. focused lab, which hopes to further the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics at College Bell Angelot. From school supplies, a new blackboard and printers, L’union Suite also gave away gift bags to young ladies full of E.l.f Cosmetics products.
With a brief presentation, a handful of thank you’s and even some singing, it was time for the students to take full advantage of their new computers. Some surfed the web, others watched videos on YouTube and one savvy young man even took an online exam.
The most poignant moment of the day was when one of the oldest students, who is also top of his class told Mrs. Tima-Gilles, “You know why we are even more thankful to you? You made us a promise and you actually came back and kept your word.”
“There is no way that any of this would have been made possible without the help of constant supporters like Empowering For Tomorrow, Scrapye of Team of H.O.P.E Organization, Pierre Garcon, Stand Together for Haiti, Proud T-shirts, Willie Floyd Photography and Spirit Airlines, their contributions helped make this dream come true,” Wanda Tima-Gilles says.
This is only the first stop for L’union Suite as they hope to continue opening computer labs throughout Cap-Haitien, to fill schools with the resources they need to teach children the importance of technology and create a brighter future for the youth there.
