Orange Is the New Black third season of the dramedy, originally meant to hit Netflix at midnight on Friday, released a few hours earlier, debuting a little after 6 p.m. PST on Thursday. The Netflix premiere which have been available for less than twelve hours is already trending on all social networks. If you haven’t watched it yet, I advise you to stay away from the hashtag #OITNB.
A couple of days ago as she prepared for the release, I caught up with Haitian American actress Vicky Jeudy who play Janae Watson on the show. My 15-minute interview with Vicky highlights the actress role on OITNB, her background, her career, her family, how she learned how to cook in Haiti and much more.
Originally from Queens NY, Vicky got her start in the entertainment world competing in beauty pageants. Vicky was a top 25 Semifinalist in the Miss NY USA competition, where she also took home the title of Miss Photogenic. As a college student, Vicky began to seriously study the craft of acting and gained experience in the indie film world. Her emotionally nuanced performances coupled with her professionalism created fast opportunities. A humanitarian at heart, Vicky is an avid reader in holistic health who, when not on set, can be found empowering the youth in her urban community.
Jenji Kohan is series creator and showruner of “Orange Is the New Black,” based on the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman. The show has already been renewed for season four, and starts shooting on Monday.
Congratulations Vicky!
