So wishing I was in NYC tonight!

Ms. Lauryn Hill is bringing her festival to life. In partnership with TIDAL X, the Fugees icon has announced she will be headlining the very first “Diaspora Calling!, a three-day music and art festival set to run through Friday (Apr. 15) at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.

Everything started on Thursday night with an art gallery that she curated along with MoCADA, Nader Haitian Art, and the Haiti Cultural Exchange.

In a statement, Hill explained, “Diaspora Calling! is a collection of works intended to celebrate the rich tapestry of artists from the African Diaspora while also illumining persistent and irrepressible themes,” said Hill in a statement. “Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves.”

The festivities kicked off last night with a private celebration and art gallery with music by DJ Spinna and DJ Juls. Hill curated the gallery along with MoCADA, Nader Haitian Art, and the Haiti Cultural Exchange. The gallery is open to the public from 12-4 p.m. today and tomorrow.

According to #RapUp, today “L. Boogie will headline the inaugural festival, with additional performances by Machel Montano, Stephen “Ragga” Marley, Stonebwoy, Wondaboy, and Mr. Eazi.”
