Last year, Karen Civil  announced her partnership with Sow A Seed organization and their plan to launch her Live Civil playground in Haiti.  After some contractual issues, Karen and Sow A Seed parted ways, determine to do her part and give back to the children of Haiti,  Karen changed course and started making plans to launch her playground on her own.

@karencivil Happy Haitian Flag Day! So happy to be in Haiti celebrating the occasion w/ @MarriottHaiti & working on my #LiveCivilPlayground.

On May 18th, Haitian Flag Day, Karen traveled to Haiti to celebrate “Haitian Flag Day” and coordinate with  her new team on completing the project while lodging at the new and beautiful Marriott Haiti.

Last year Karen’s traveled to Haiti with the Sow A Seed team and lodged at Wahoo Bay Beach. Outside of the pictures at the school and playground site, most of her pictures were at the beach and on the water.

I notice this time around Karen spent some time in local areas and even posted pictures of her walking in a neighborhood  with a friend.

I caught up with Karen and asked her about her recent trip.We chatted about what it was like being in Haiti on such an important day in Haitian history and being able to see Haiti outside the tourist areas.

My recent trip back to Haiti was to continue working on what the #LiveCivil team started last year, which is out playground initiative in Haiti. My trip back was such an eye-opening experience. A lot of stuff on my first trip I was sheltered from seeing, this trip I was able to visit my cities and really see the different areas.

Being Haiti for flag day was something I wanted to cross off my bucket list. Being home and celebrating the occasion and spending it with my community. –Karen Civil
