The Haitian community is in deep mourning following the senseless and brutal murder of 28-year-old Éliana Thélémaque and her infant in Kenscoff. The horrific tragedy has sent shockwaves across the nation, further highlighting the urgent need to address the growing violence and insecurity in Haiti.
Éliana’s unimaginable ordeal began when armed bandits tore her baby from her arms and mercilessly threw the child into a fire. Forced to witness the unthinkable, Éliana was left in a state of profound shock and trauma.
Originally from Arcahaie, Éliana had already been grappling with the pain of losing her father, whose body still remains unclaimed in a morgue. To add to her misfortune, she and her child had recently been deported from the Dominican Republic, leaving them vulnerable and without the support they desperately needed.
Following the traumatic loss of her child, Éliana was found wandering the streets of Pétion-Ville on February 14. She was taken to the Pétion-Ville police station, where she received initial psychological care. However, the emotional wounds ran too deep. Just days later, Éliana succumbed to the overwhelming grief and trauma, leaving behind a community devastated by her loss.
In response to this horrific tragedy, the Minister for the Status of Women and Women’s Rights, Pédrica Jean, has strongly condemned the murder, calling for urgent justice. She has pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Justice to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.
This incident has reignited demands for stronger governmental action against the escalating gang violence in Haiti. Many voices within the community and abroad are criticizing the authorities for their inaction and failure to protect vulnerable citizens.
Éliana’s story is a heartbreaking testament to the human cost of violence and instability in Haiti. Her tragic fate underscores the urgent need for meaningful action to combat lawlessness and safeguard the nation’s citizens.
As the world mourns the loss of Éliana and her infant, it is imperative that their deaths serve as a wake-up call. The silence from those in power must be replaced with decisive action. The Haitian people deserve safety, security, and justice.
Our thoughts are with Éliana’s family, loved ones, and the entire Haitian community as they grieve this unimaginable loss.
