Haiti’s prime minister visited his alma mater in South Florida.
Barry University bestowed its “distinguished alumni award” on Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and two other graduates on Saturday. Lamothe graduated from the Miami Shores university in 1996 with a degree in political science. Barry officials said the award honors alumni who have “distinguished themselves through significant achievement.” Lamothe went on to earn a master’s degree at St. Thomas University. Next week, Lamothe will speak at St. Thomas about entrepreneurship in Haiti. Lamothe appealed for international aid to help Haiti recover from Hurricane Sandy, which left dozens dead and missing and seriously damaged crops in the Caribbean country.
“We’ve declared a state of emergency, which gave the government greater flexibility to deal with the crisis…,” Lamothe said. – source
