Haitian American Nurses Association Fundraising & Awards Gala

HANA will be celebrating its 31st Annual Scholarship Fundraising & Awards Gala on Saturday, April 11, at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Brickell Avenue. This year’s theme is HANA: Cultivating Nurse Leaders & Touching Lives though Caring, Service and Excellence symbolize the spirit of professionalism and collaboration. The Master of Ceremony for the event will be, Eric Yutzy and Constance Jones, Co-Anchors of Local 10 News. HANA honor the 2015 Honorees and Ten (10) deserving nursing students from Florida Accredited Schools of Nursing along with two nursing student recipients from Haiti will be awarded scholarships. The Esteemed Keynote Speaker for the gala is Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Health and Population of Haiti (MSPP, II).

On Thursday, April 9 Miami Dade College ‘s (MDC) Wolfson Campus will host the Haitian American Nurses Association (HANA) Fourth Annual Leadership Convention in partnership with Miami Dade College BSN Program Honor Society at 8 am at the Chapman Center, Room 3210. Pre-Convention Press Conference will be held at 8:30am at the Chapman Center with the Media and Special Guests. Local officials, Community Leaders and Attendees will participate in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 9:00am, which will kick off the two-day leadership convention including lectures, abstract presentations, etc.

The goal of the 4th Annual Convention is to empower Nurses and Allied Health Professionals to become transformative leaders, advocates, and catalysts for change within their communities to improve population health and global healthcare outcomes. The Distinguished Keynote Speaker for the Convention is Deidre Walton, JD, MSN, RN, PHN, President and CEO of the National Black Nurses Association.

HANA is a 501(c) 3, non-profit membership organization, established since 1984 to provide nurses the opportunity to unite as a group, to share and provide ideas of interest, and to become effectively involved with the issues and services relevant to the health and welfare of communities in Florida and abroad. Currently, HANA comprises of five chapters in the United States: HANA of Florida, HANA of Rockland, New York, HANA of Greater New York, HANA of New Jersey, HANA of Georgia and HANA of Tampa, Florida. HANA fosters awareness and commitment to providing excellent nursing services. Additionally, the organization strives to increase enrollment of nursing students through education and mentoring as well as creating community networking opportunities for its members.
