Local 10 News Frantz Dambreville reports, a local group aims to build a library and cultural center in Cité Soleil, Haiti. The founders of this project: Konbit Solèy Leve, or Konbit of the Rising Sun- is a social movement founded in 2011 with a mission of bringing together the community.

Today, there are more than 5,000 supporters which have contributed to the sponsorship of this project, almost entirely sponsored by the residents of the Cité.

They collected nearly $180,000 US and 17,000 books, even the architectural plans were drafted by a former resident of the area. This library will include a multipurpose hall for training and education, a multimedia studio, as well as a computer center with free internet access.

A cultural center at the heart of this community will promote positive alternatives to the surge of violence and eventually restore hope back to “Sun City.”
