In a significant step toward bolstering Haiti’s national security, a new military cooperation program between France and Haiti has been launched, with 25 Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) soldiers beginning a two-week training session in Martinique. This initiative is part of a broader partnership aimed at strengthening Haiti’s security forces and promoting stability in the face of escalating challenges.
French Ambassador to Haiti, Antoine Michon, shared images of the departing soldiers, underscoring the importance of this collaboration. He, alongside the French Minister of Defense, welcomed the troops, marking the start of what both nations hope will be an impactful alliance. “This cooperation is a pivotal first step in a long-term commitment to support Haiti’s security needs,” Michon remarked, emphasizing the essential role such training plays in empowering the FAd’H to address the nation’s security concerns.
The French Armed Forces in the Antilles, who are leading the training program, also published photos of the Haitian soldiers in action. This partnership arrives at a critical time, as Haiti faces a surge in gang violence and social instability. With this initiative, France and Haiti aim to enhance the FAd’H’s capabilities to help restore peace and order, contributing to a safer environment for the Haitian population.
As the training unfolds, hopes are high that these soldiers will return with the skills and support necessary to address Haiti’s security challenges effectively, fostering greater stability for the future.
