Things keep getting more interesting this election season.
As if tensions weren’t high enough, ballot drop boxes are being set on fire. Federal authorities are investigating a series of fires targeting ballot drop boxes in the Portland, Oregon, area, with two incidents reported on Monday morning and another earlier this month.
According to Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner, the incendiary devices used in the attacks suggest a connection between the incidents, and a “suspect vehicle” was seen leaving the scene of the first fire. Authorities believe the fires in Portland and Vancouver, Washington, are related, indicating a coordinated effort to disrupt the voting process.
The FBI has stepped in to assist the investigation, working closely with state and local law enforcement to track down those responsible. Steve Bernd, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Seattle office, confirmed federal involvement, stressing the importance of safeguarding election infrastructure during this critical time.
With these incidents, election season takes another disturbing turn as authorities work to prevent further attacks and protect voters’ access to the ballot.
