The new year has already presented its share of challenges, from intense winter storms to devastating wildfires. Adding to the turbulence, a dramatic scene unfolded Friday morning at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, as passengers evacuated a Delta Air Lines jet via emergency slides following an aborted takeoff.
Delta Flight 2668, scheduled to travel from Atlanta to Minneapolis-St. Paul, was halted after the flight crew detected an indication of an engine issue. Acting swiftly and prioritizing passenger safety, the crew implemented emergency protocols, leading to the evacuation of all passengers without incident.
A Delta spokesperson addressed the situation in a statement to USA Today, explaining, “Delta’s flight crew followed established procedures to suspend the takeoff of flight 2668 from Atlanta (ATL) to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) after an indication of an engine issue. Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience. We are working to support our customers and get them to their destinations as safely and quickly as possible.”
Videos circulating on social media captured the evacuation process, showing passengers exiting the aircraft using the emergency slides. While the experience was undoubtedly alarming, the swift actions of the crew and adherence to safety protocols ensured that everyone remained safe.
This incident underscores the importance of rigorous safety measures in aviation, particularly in the face of unexpected challenges. Delta has assured passengers that they are taking all necessary steps to accommodate affected travelers and minimize disruptions to their journeys.
