With only a few days left before Haitian-American Andre Berto’s biggest fight, I joined him, his team and family today and got a first hand look at the fighter’s preparation for his fight Saturday.
Berto, a former two-time welterweight titleholder will meet Mayweather on Saturday (Showtime PPV, 8 ET) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in what Mayweather has said repeatedly will be the final bout of his decorated 19-year career. For Berto it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, one he couldn’t have imagined two years ago would have come his way.
With an entourage that include a his parents, his closest friends, his brothers, his personal photographer, trainers and the Showtime PPV all access cameras following him around, everyone is very confident Andre, or Mike as they call him is going to take down Mayweather.
“I’ve faced these odds my whole life,” Berto said. “I was counted out two years ago when I was laying in the hospital with a torn shoulder. It gave me a completely different perspective. I really thought my career might be over. I told myself that when I get back in there, I was going to go all in.” –ESPN
